Description
The Kyivan Church Study Group was a voluntary gathering of bishops and theologians of the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church (UGCC) and the Ecumenical Patriarchate (EP). Their mission was to study whether the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church can have full and visible communion with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople without breaking its full and visible communion with the church of Rome.
Proceedings from the four consultations – Oxford, Stamford, Ottawa, Rome – were published in over thirty papers across four volumes of LOGOS: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies. According to Fr. Chirovsky, both Rome and Constantinople “encouraged us to find a way to achieve full communion with both Rome and Constantinople.”
In October 2018, interest in the Kyivan Church Study Group was renewed when Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople announced that the granting of Autocephaly to the Church of Ukraine was to proceed.
